No, it's just how long the average car stays on a dealer lot. Supply is a factor, of course, but the demand has to outstrip the supply to the point that they can't even order you one before it makes a big difference. When the original Prius was released, demand was so high that if you wanted one, you got put on a list. They would call when the next car came in. If it was black and you wanted light green, your choice was take black or wait. If you picked wait, the next person on the list got the same choice. You didn't get to test drive one, just buy it.

But demand for SUVs has been consistently high since they first got released for companies making good ones. The local BMW dealer has 5 X5s in stock right now. That's over $300,000 in inventory sitting there. You really don't want a huge inventory on your books unless there's really low interest rates or really high turnover (and they've got both right now.

I'm assuming these comparisons are all based on the same quantity of each vehicle type? Surely supply has a part in how quickly things move. If luxury SUVs are available in lesser quantities, it would make sense that they move faster when they arrive to the lot, right?

I found a slip of paper stapled to the bill. It says they're changing it to read when the oil was changed because most Hondas now have a dash indicator for when the oil reaches the 15% of it's life remaining. The Fit is rated for 10,000 miles between changes, which seems huge to me too. I've always changed my oil more often than recommended. My idiot light has never showed, period, in 69,000 miles. No matter the reason, I still think it's a bad idea.

It's not that I don't care for change when it helps people (after all, I did vote for hope & change :)) but I don't see this as helpful.

The sticker they put on my windshield indicates when the oil needs to be changed, not the odo reading on the date of the last oil change. That seems mighty shady. I tend to take it to the quickie places though so they usually write the window decal for the standard 3,000 miles where as the car is rated for 5,000 miles between changes (your honda is rated for 10,000 miles? I've never even heard of that. every car I've had has been 3-5000). For the most part I ignore the windshield decal and take it in when the dummy light in the dash starts blinking at me (it blinks when you're within 500 miles of needing a change and lights steady when you are past due).

I think it will take someone from out of nowhere. I'm just grateful we've "experienced" Palin and Perry and hopefully can consider them out of the running. I don't think Santorum will swing to the center, I think the center will swing away from him.

2016 is a long time off to be picking candidates for the primary though. You never know who will pop out of the woodwork from either party. Remember that, prior to his 2004 DNC convention speech, Barrack Obama was relatively unknown. And look at Sarah Palin's amazing leap to prominence (not that she would be a candidate who could pull the middle, at all, but the point being that given the right circumstances, especially in the ever increasingly "anti-establishment" political environment, a relative nobody can quickly become a force to be reckoned with).

On Santorum specifically, watching his campaign thus far, I'm not sure that he could make the swing to the center. It SEEMS that he has alot of trouble staying on message. I've noticed that it sometimes seems he's trying to stick to the economy, but just uncontrollably drifts back to his pet social issues. While he's alot smarter than Palin, they share some of the same issues. Their charisma, youth, physical appearance, make them "likable" candidates, but they're too "loose cannon" for their handlers to manage properly.
