Uncle Ted not going up the river after all

Yep, this one’s not an April Fool’s joke either. Uncle Ted Stephens, who took a quarter of a million dollars in home improvements from an oil executive without reporting them and was found guilty on seven felony counts, will get to go free. It seems his prosecutors violated the laws pertaining to the rights of the accused and Attorney General Holder decided that the government could not consciously pursue opposing an appeal of the decision, especially after the discovery of yet another disregard for due process, and he has asked that the conviction get tossed.
He was guilty but he wasn’t treated fairly. Probably due in large part to the conviction, Uncle Ted was also tossed out of the other big house, the Senate in his recent reelection bid. There are no do-overs on an election though, and he’s still a loser there. If you want more, with details and such, you need to go here, here and here (for political, legal and news versions of the story).
And in important news, the Obamas gave Queen Elizabeth II (the one that’s not the boat) an iPod. The old babe got one before I did, damn her.

The silver lining in that cloud might be that Ted, who’s a complete asshole, might get unsenile long enough to remember that Sarah Palin abandoned him when he was sinking fast.
