I personally believe that making fun of someone because they do something stupid is within the bounds of propriety, but making fun or insulting someone because of something they cannot control, like skin color, mental retardation, gender, etc., are not. (And in the interest of disclosure, being blonde is not a protected class, and, actually more often than not, a choice, so it’s open game.)

Blue Collar Muse is correct. This is also wrong. And, having been convinced by ACK that a reprimand may be an acceptable level of punishment, if I knew this staffer’s name, I’d publish it too, and ask they be reprimanded. It’s a matter of respect and courtesy, damn it, for human beings. We’re all different in some way or another.

Update: Blake Graves was the person’s name. He was an intern or a temp employeee - I’m not sure and it isn’t relevant. He’s also been reported as a Republican and a Democrat, which is interesting from the viewpoint of acrobatics but also irrelevant to the issue. It’s a matter of respect and courtesy for others and he didn’t show it. He has reportedly apologized and has either resigned or been fired - I’ve also heard both. I believe it’s time for mandatory training on common courtesy at the state. Many companies do this annually. Perhaps the state should as well.
