Midnight in the ER

Well, today I made it right into another year. I’ve discovered that the secret of living a long time is to keep having birthdays. As long as you keep having them you keep getting older.
This has been a flu-filled weekend for us. Thursday and Friday were fine but yesterday one of us started feeling bad and today it was two more I’m the only one of the four of us who doesn’t have it yet. Not the H1N1 or the swine one, just the gutbuster. They’ll all live, but there will be a period of sustained loss of dignity for about 48 hours.
Maybe I’ll escape. Maybe I won’t. Time will tell. Anyway, grab something alcoholic and have a drink to celebrate my birthday (or Pearl Harbor Day).

Happy Birthday, you old coot! Feel Better! I’ll be toasting you with a “Step Lively” cocktail; it’s equal parts Gatorade and Everclear grain alcohol with a half a cup of Miralax crystals.
I’ve been sick for a week with the coldfluplague that’s been going around. I had the regular flu shot, but the H1N1 is not happening anytime soon, near as I can tell. I’m off to the VA for a three month check-up in an hour and they can have a look at whatever’s living in me.
Hope you’re all up, and keeping food down, soon.

Helpful hint: Stretch your birthdays into birthweeks, and eventually, birthmonths. Soon enough, the people around you stop recognizing another year passing for you as well. I’m actually 27.
