Every time I see a Hummer
Posted by jimJul 2
I feel a mixture of pity and disgust for the owner, especially one of the H2s which get high single-digit mileage on a good day if they’re coasting downhill. I know full well they don’t really care what I think, but there you have it. Since it’s all about me, screw them.
News flash: they’re not selling well. June sales of all Hummers (even the one they refer to as the baby, the H3, with “good” mileage) are down a staggering 59.3% over last year and GM itself is down 18.5%. The combo of a sucky economy (sucky is a technical term we economists use to mean an economy that doesn’t meet the Phil Valentine definition of a recession, but is one anyway) and gas prices through the roof are finally accomplishing what common sense couldn’t – the impending collapse of yet another GM division.
GM is doing better than other automakers, though. They are featuring a 72 hour sale promotion that’s apparently going to last for a week or so. If they can’t tell time, is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Jim:
Maybe they’ll be offering some deal like buy any two vehicles and the one with lower mpg is free!

I wouldn’t get one even if they were free.

Mr. Ivy and I chuckle mightily at the Crest Hummer ads. “My wife won’t drive anything else!” Of course, she can’t drive anywhere without taking out a second mortgage on her home, but she won’t drive anything else, alright!
What kills me are all these people now selling their 2-3 year old SUVs and acting surprised that nobody wants to buy them. Dudes, I’m no Krescan the Magnificent, but 2 years ago when I was buying a car, I saw which way the tide was turning. People laughed at the fact that I stuff 3 kids into a Honda Accord, but who’s laughing now?
